Pacemaker DJ station in the palm of your hand | Gadget Lover

Pacemaker DJ station in the palm of your handThe Pacemaker isn't Dick Cheney's favorite new gadget. The unfortunately named handheld from Tonium, a Swedish company which may be forgiven for its eponymous misstep, is actually a cool (and, at $700 when it arrives in March, heart-attack pricey) MP3 player cum DJ station.

Inside is 120 GB to store your MP3, AAC, WMA, WMA lossless, OGG Vorbis, FLAC or WAV files. You can grab two tracks or channels, one to loop in, one to loop out, then use the the touch bar cross fader and six mixing buttons to mix and mash to your heart's content. A round rubberized touchpad controls most of the major mundane navigation functions.

You can certainly entertain yourself, or you can output your mixing via the headset or the USB jack. It's happy to play with either Mac or Windows, it can run on battery or direct AC, and it could be one of those addictive devices that will be difficult to pry out of your cramping fingers.
